2018 Recap + Moving Forward

I’ve never been one to make new year’s resolutions, but I’m all about reflecting and personal development! This year has been extremely unique in a few ways. In addition to reflecting on what I accomplished this year, I also set a few goals for myself to kick off the new year in a positive way.

5 Accomplishments:

March 2018

I celebrated my 2 year (dating) anniversary with William! Although this comes as no surprise for those who know us, it’s really cool to see how far we have come. Although we have not changed much physically, we have grown personally and together as a couple through new experiences. This past year he let me talk him into way too many vacations and eating at new restaurants a little too often. He talked me into giving Hal Elrod’s Miracle Morning and exercising a try. Every day that I’m able to spend with him is so exciting. I’m curious to see what we will learn about each other in the future!

Side Note: This photo was taken on our trip to Chicago. We had just arrived, dropped off our luggage at the hotel, and needed to eat ASAP being that it was 11pm. We found a pizza place called “Pizzeria Uno” behind the hotel and quickly fell in love with it. Two months later for our anniversary, William surprised me with two deep dish pizzas delivered straight from Pizzeria Uno!
May 2018

I graduated from LSU! It’s crazy to think that I didn’t even want to attend school there, but I knew I wanted to be a part of the best journalism program in the state. By the end of the first semester, I ended up falling in love with the school. In my sophomore year I applied to the Manship School of Mass Communication and was accepted into the journalism program. I’m more thankful than ever that I attended one of the best schools in the nation.

June 2018

I purchased a new car on my own! Hard work and multiple jobs in college pays off. Trust me, there were a lot of tears, late night study sessions, 25 hour work weeks on top of being a full-time student, and no pool days during the summer, but it truly made it worth it. Plus, my car now has turbo… which means it’s double the fun. 😉

September 2018

I launched Doodles and Donuts on September 14, 2018! This was a very special moment for me since it was something that I did not think I was capable of. I doubted my ability to balance the blog with school and work and was scared to open up to the world. But I knew since I was younger that I wanted to be a communicator so I just pushed through my doubts and fears. I had actually created it in May of 2018, and did not have the courage to make it public until four months later! My blog is everything I’ve ever wanted. I’m able to help others in unusual ways and it’s opened so many doors. I look forward to many more years of doing what I love!

I hosted a blog launch party with a few of my close friends and made this donut cake to celebrate the launch.
November 2018

My photo made it on Target’s website! Does that mean I can pronounce Target as “tar-jay” now? It seems like such a small accomplishment because it’s at the bottom of the page next to a couple other bloggers, but it meant the world to me. I continued to have doubts about my blog until I was approached by Target and asked if my photo could be used as advertisement. Of course I replied “yes” while crying like a baby. Check out the post where I talked about my top from Target here!

5 Goals:

Bake More!

This is seriously therapeutic to me! It doesn’t matter if it’s cupcakes or apple pie, the entire process (except for washing dishes) is enjoyable to me. It requires my full concentration and seeing the product at the end is so rewarding. I also love being able to share my sweets with other people. I have had little time to do it this past year, but I want to change that!

Send Birthday Cards!

I feel like you are thinking, “what in the world-we have texting for that.” And that’s fine! Judge me all you want 😉 There’s just something about receiving a physical card personalized for me on a special day that brings me so much joy. Someone had to think about you before your birthday and go out of their way just to let you know that they care. I’d really love to do this, and take it a step further by mailing that card to my close family and friends.

Post more frequently!

I have goals that I set for this little bitty space on the Internet and one of the ways to achieve my goals is simple. I plan to build my blog into an even better one and I plan to do so by dedicating more time to posting. So stay tuned for more content!

Pay off one student loan!

This is not really what I enjoy doing, but I would like to celebrate this small victory at some point in the upcoming year. I’m actually a Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University graduate, so everything I spend money on is actually budgeted. In addition to having a strategic budgeting plan, I also understand that paying off a loan that has the highest interest is a financially wise decision. So here’s to less money for clothes and more money for loan payments

Be healthier!

If you read my accomplishments above, you would see that I mentioned that I started working out! I actually despise it. I also really hate drinking water. I think both of these things suck. However, being healthy is important to me since I don’t want to look or feel 60 years old by the time I turn 30. Putting more effort into drinking water and working out would really make me proud.
